Hooray! Today is the final instalment of our three part series of how to travel animal friendly before, during and after your tremendous holiday.

You’re home now- flicking through travel snaps and feeling those post-travel blues. This is a great time to reminisce on your time overseas and your encounters with your favourite friendly creatures. Did have any animal encounters that you absolutely loved? Were they TRUELY “animal friendly”? Maybe your up-close experience was not as expected? One that you may sadly regret? By following these steps, it’s not too late to make a change!

Spread the Word

Be the voice for all animals! Tell your friends and family about your experiences. Use social media and websites such as TripAdvisor to encourage your friends and fellow travellers to learn about how they can be animal friendly on holiday.

Know somebody who’s travelling overseas soon? Tell them about what you’ve found out about the wildlife tourism industry. Let them know what their hard earned money could be going towards if they attend a mismanaged animal attraction. Hopefully, they will make the right decision and protect these animals from more cruelty .

Report and Record

If it turns out a place you visited is mismanaged and/or a ‘fake’ sanctuary, record inappropriate treatment and report it to the appropriate local authorities. Do not take corrective measures yourself. Be aware of risks to yourself and/or the animals involved.

By empowering yourself with the information from our three part series, you’ve taken the first step to helping protect animals when you travel. Thank you and well done! Now it’s time to put what you’ve learned into action. Pack your bags, have a great trip – and protect animals as you travel!

This 3 part series has been so helpful and thought provoking. It seems to me, as long as we have an awareness about these tourist practices – thanks to your blog – we are capable of spreading the word and in doing so, help others to learn!
Thank you so much for opening my eyes to what is happening world wide, and enabling me to become more aware when I am travelling in these countries.
